The Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) successfully convened its 13th General Assembly on April 25–26, 2025, at Meerumaa Hall in Malé. The biennial gathering brought together 46 representatives from six MRC Units and members of the Governing Board, with observers from the MRC National Youth Council and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), including John Entwistle, Head of the IFRC South Asia Country Cluster Delegation.
In her opening remarks, Interim President Rasheeda Ali reflected on the organization's journey since its founding in 2009. She highlighted that MRC has been in service for 15 years, providing extensive humanitarian services across the country during this period. MRC has achieved significant successes as an exemplary organisation serving humanity and credits it's sustained success to its vast volunteer network, the largest in the country and its active collaboration with government bodies and partners.
During the start of the Assembly, representatives observed a moment of silence to honor humanitarian workers and civilians lost in conflict, particularly those with the Palestine Red Crescent Society. MRC continues it's call for the protection of civilians, health workers, and humanitarian personnel under international humanitarian law.
